Treasure = Lavinia Greenlaw on T.S. Eliot

The lovely folk at Toast UK present poet Lavinia Greenlaw's essay on T.S. Eliot.     I think every single CEGEP and university English course I took included analysis of one of Eliot's works.   The Love-Song of J. Alfred Prufrock is still one of my favourite works to hear read aloud.

A talented local, Julian Peters, has made a gorgeous comic book adaptation of this work.   You can see the first nine pages here.

Postcards featuring mid-century motel rooms = treasure

Came across this set of postcards featuring motel rooms of the 1950s and 60s. Am entertaining visions of framing them in plastic cubes and building a fort. Oh yes.

Love this one!

Treasure = large image files for decor!

VintagePrintable is the sort of site you can get lost in for hours if you're anything like me in the "Oh I lurve me some vintage images, graphics & fonts" department. Best of all, the image files are all quite large, and all in the public domain, so if you have a blah space on any of your walls, you can hit print, pop a pretty into a frame and voila, 'blah' banished!

It isn't the easiest site to navigate, but digging for treasure is half the fun!

I'm thinking of printing a few of the beach adverts and photos for the Trove.

Treasure = exploring the homes of creative folk with The Selby

Stumbled over this site the other day and have dedicated a rather unhealthy amount of time diving into the photos and feeling my neurons snap and fire away as they create excited new connections in the part of my grey matter called "Inspired by Interiors!"

From the site:
"Todd Selby is a portrait, interiors, and fashion photographer and illustrator. His project The Selby offers an insider’s view of creative individuals in their personal spaces with an artist's eye for detail. "

Warning: once you go in...you may lose an hour or so!

Treasure = a vacation rental in Australia

Oh, Apartment Therapy, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways...no, wait, that would take too long...

My winning-lottery-ticket dreams include stays in inspiring yet cozy spaces all over the world, and this lovely vacation rental in Port Douglas, Australia, is on that list! I love how they've pulled together so many thrifted finds into an airy, colourful & textured whole.

Their wall of mirrors in the bathroom is giving me ideas!

Treasure = over 900 free films on the NFB website!

Ten (10?!!!) years ago, I was a bright-eyed student in the Communications Studies department at Concordia University. One of my favourite classes was Documentary Film, and I really enjoyed learning about how the documentary process evolved, specifically in Canada. I was thrilled to find out that many of the docs we analyzed in class are now available (along with over 900 other films, from comedy to claymation, animation to experimental & even full length features!) for free on the National Film Board of Canada's website! I particularly enjoy how you can sort the selection by genre and decade.

It'd make for a nice budget-friendly date, no? Simply grab your laptop, meet at a cafe with free wifi (*cough* Café 92°, open til 9 every night, on the corner of Sherbrooke & Montclair in NDG), share a slice of amaretto cheesecake and enjoy a classic 1950s Canadian documentary or a 1970s claymation gem by the legendary Co Hoedeman.

Go forth and explore!
