****SOLD**** Vintage door knob: $10

****SOLD****
One of my favourite movies is Benny and Joon, and a huge part of my affection for that film is rooted in the colourful dreaminess of Joon's studio. She has a number of vintage door knobs hanging by the window, and oh, the way they swayed when a certain Mr. Depp tapped them with his cane!
This vintage door knob makes a lovely shabby chic decorative piece, on a bureau, or vanity, or hanging in front of a window.

Treasure = over 900 free films on the NFB website!

Ten (10?!!!) years ago, I was a bright-eyed student in the Communications Studies department at Concordia University. One of my favourite classes was Documentary Film, and I really enjoyed learning about how the documentary process evolved, specifically in Canada. I was thrilled to find out that many of the docs we analyzed in class are now available (along with over 900 other films, from comedy to claymation, animation to experimental & even full length features!) for free on the National Film Board of Canada's website! I particularly enjoy how you can sort the selection by genre and decade.

It'd make for a nice budget-friendly date, no? Simply grab your laptop, meet at a cafe with free wifi (*cough* CafĂ© 92°, open til 9 every night, on the corner of Sherbrooke & Montclair in NDG), share a slice of amaretto cheesecake and enjoy a classic 1950s Canadian documentary or a 1970s claymation gem by the legendary Co Hoedeman.

Go forth and explore!

Jewelry making workshop!

Attention crafty Trovers!

I was looking around the new Trove room yesterday and thought to myself, "Hmmm. Bistro chairs and a comfy loveseat currently arranged around a hexagonal pedestal table. Tons of window light. Walls covered in pretties and sparklies. Wouldn't it be nice to host an earring-making workshop - with Tara of T-Love's Shop- for five or six people in here one Sunday afternoon?"

The style of earring we'd learn would be a very pretty grape cluster earring (see bel0w) and you get to pick your colours from the available beads!

Stay tuned! Details to come! Do let me know if you're interested!

Treasure = perfectly mismatched items creating a coherent whole

Design*Sponge is one of my daily must-clicks, yet somehow I missed this recent post in all the moving brou-ha-ha. I love how much personality these two (landscape architect Gabriel Wick and his partner Olivier) have injected into their grand space. Their collection of whimsical painted portraits has me eying the blank walls in our new apartment with a bit of a dangerous gleam in my eye...

Also, today's review of flea market decor trends is truly inspirational!

Soon to glitter in the trove...

  • crystal candy dish
  • pewter heart-shaped jewelry box
  • vintage 60s multicoloured blouse with ruffled neckline and wrists
  • early 90s Levi's denim skirt, full button-up front

The Trove is the BOM!!!!!

From this week's Montreal Mirror:

I am so happy I am a MAD-grinning, speedy-chair-swivelling, total TGIF idiot, productivity sinkhole at the office right now. Thanks to everyone who voted - I had NO IDEA my little blogiverse nook was in the running and I will continue to BRING THE TREASURE!

Hello treasure seekers!

The stylish and charming A. of And Secondly is hosting a sale in her cozy Old Montreal loft this weekend, and the selection of designer and vintage clothing & accessories is dazzling! She & her just as sartorially gifted fellow have just come back from San Francisco where the thrifting is MAD, and there are racks of pretties just stuffed to bursting. You should help relieve her of 'em!

Space is limited, but for more info, you can get in touch with her at: andsecondly@gmail.com

Treasure = successful inauguration of the new digs!

Two for the 'happy' list today:

  1. New digs were successfully inaugurated last night! At one point I looked round the room and had to suppress a delighted giggle as there was one Trover in the dressing room, two kneeling by the mirrors, one poring over the jewelry, and two more (amazing wonderful gals) walking through the door with...

  2. MANGO COCONUT SORBET from Bilboquet!

For the Trovers scheduled to swing by this evening, you may have to help me polish off the sorbet!

.

Weekend Trove raids still available!

Hello all!

All of the Trove Raid appointments for the next few weekday evenings and for this Saturday afternoon have been booked and I am AMPED!

There are still blocks available for Sunday afternoon between noon and 4 if anyone is interested.

My kitchen should be fully operational by then, so I can promise a freshly brewed pot of Persian tea as well.

Cheers!

MJ

Whoo! The electricity, she is comink soon to the Trove, yes!

The electrician is set to work in the apartment this evening, so (fingers crossed), I should be able to make on-line Trove updates by Thursday morning!

There's plenty-o-treasures awaiting yer perusal, including:
  • antique painted wood carousel horse's head
  • ornately framed accent mirrors

Welcome to the Trove's new digs!!

Whew! After a very long couple of weeks, I am pleased to present the Trove's new digs! The room serves as a combination diningroom/ reading room/ photo studio & treasure home. Though there are still some items on the to-do list (a dressing room being one of them), and it'll be a few days more before I can post new items individually on-line (waiting on the electrician for some key wiring), the physical Trove is open for raiding, by appointment only, on weekday evenings after 7pm and weekend afternoons between noon and 5pm!

Drop me a line if you're interested, and it'll be my pleasure to set up a convenient time. I plan on letting this room evolve over the next few months, and would very much welcome your ideas and feedback.

Cheers!

MJ

(Currently waiting for discovery: Viktor + Rolf knit tan top, black Armani cami, Jean Airoldi apple green silk dress, classic Levi's skirt, Versace stretch white denim mini, Michael Kors polka dot wedges and much more!)

This morning in the Trove...

Beaker: Mii mi mi Miiimii Mii?

Dr. Bunsen Honeydew: The 80s denim Pashu does bring out your hair, yes, but I think you'd be more comfortable in the pink Mexx sundress.

Beaker: Mi! Mimi meemimi mee! MiMee?

Dr. Bunsen Honeydew: I'm afraid I don't know much about shoes...wedges, heels, platforms...all a mystery to me....except for blowing them up. THAT, I can do!

Beaker (sadly) : Meeeee...

Technical glitches in Treasure Treasure Land...

Dearest Trovers,

The move is 95% done! S. & I are both quite weary in body, but undaunted in spirit! Unfortunately, it looks like it'll be close to a week before our internet service is connected, and it'll be that long before I have a functional computer as well.

All to say that it looks like there won't be any updates until at least next Monday, but I promise it will be worth it! I have over 100 vintage jewelry items on their way to me as I type this (rhinestones and brooches and sparklies, oh my!), and the Trove's new home, even in its current state of chaos, shows tremendous potential!

(My apologies for the poor quality of the photos. My darling camera has yet to be unpacked.)

I received so many lovely messages wishing us well for the move - thank you so much for these, I was quite touched.

See you all soon!

~MJ

.

See you all in a few days!

Hello dear Trovers,

The (not so) Big Move is taking place this weekend, so there won't be any updates til Monday night at the earliest, as I'll be huffing and puffing up and down a flight of stairs, hauling boxes and getting the Trove's new room ready!

We've decided to sell a few pieces of our furniture as well, including our long khaki green Bauhaus couch ($60 - there are scratches on one arm, and a tear in one cushion that we've been covering with a piece of ikat fabric), and our coffee table ($40 - solid wood, with a glass and wicker top). You can see the coffee table in the photo of our livingroom below, but only a corner of the couch is visible. I'll try to get a good photo of it tomorrow. Let me know if you're interested!

See you all on the flip side of The Move, and I'm looking forward to re-opening the new physical Trove space in a week or so!
