I picked up my new glasses today (love!), took one look in their beautifully lit and accurate mirror through my pristine new lenses and blanched (not so much love!).   Holy frick on a stick do I need a makeover.  Winter dryness and winds have taken their toll on my skin.  My "soap, water, shea butter and lip balm" routine needs to level up.  I'm not ready for Spring's new matte orange lips, but maybe some peach?  A defined eye?

Any cosmetic-gurus out there want to help me put together two daytime looks for less than $80?  I'll trade ya for Trove credit!

Now I get to walk around for the next 48 hours trying not to be distracted by textures (hair!  wool!  brick! whooooooahhhhh!) or bewildered by the new distance to the sidewalk...

I'm no guru, but what exactly are you looking for? New skincare regime or little extras to add to your existing routine? New make-up products and looks?

Heya! Skincare regime is ok, though I should prob. add a weekly exfoliant once warmer weather comes. Am really looking to do the following:
a. even out my complexion, there are a few reddish areas
b. create 2 polished but light looks for daytime wear, one peachy, one with a red lip
You have phenomenal skin! Think you can help me navigate the cosmetics counters? My head starts to spin!

Oooh, if I may recommend two exfoliants (depending on your skin's sensitivity level): LUSH's Angels on Bare Skin (gentle enough to use everyday and is AMAZING for sensitive skin) and LUSH's Ocean Salt (for use 1-2 times per week, also incredible).

I actually don't have great skin (blemishes and light rosacea ahoy!), so I cover up redness like it's my job. I'm great at mixing mid- and low-priced cosmetics because I'm poor, so I'd gladly give you my recs/do a shop-date if you'd like!

Helpful suggestions emailed in by Gen:

"I'm not sure what products you have right now but I can help you pick out some inexpensive, awesome ones that are just as effective as their more expensive counter-parts. For instance I have extremely dry, sensitive skin. And winter really doesn't help the situation. I had tried all the drug store brands and then moved on to the more expensive options and although I found some moisturizers that were effective, I wasn't "wow'd" by any of them. Last month I decided to go out on a limb after a bad skin week and bought the super inexpensive "yes to carrots moisturizing day cream" and WOW. It's AMAZING. Seriously. My skin is not great but within a week, my skin is super soft and moisturized perfectly, I haven't broken out since I started using it (Which for me is rare) AND it somehow diminished my pores and got rid of most of my blackheads. I LOVE this stuff. It goes on super rich and creamy and gets almost immediatly sucked into your skin, without leaving that greasy feeling behind. I'm really picky about my products by the way :). Also exfoliant wise, I use St Ives apricot scrub which is also inexpensive and works wonders. I also use a DIY blend of honey and brown sugar which works best because the honey hard-core draws out impurities in your skin and helps heal any existing blemishes or scars, and the brown sugar ex foliates beautifully. You don't even have to keep it in the fridge as neither honey, or brown sugar go bad. Plus there's no crap in it so you know exactly what your putting on your skin."

Oooh, thanks for sharing! I've been wondering about that moisturizer -- may give it a go now! LUSH also has some fantastic moisturizers in a range of prices and types that I'm quite gung-ho for (in case you can't tell, I should probably be a LUSH spokesperson). I also second the homemade scrubs with honey and sugar -- I've also tried it with really coarse sea salt, which can also be nice.

More useful info from Gen (and she made me a mask/scrub!):

"Hey! :) I'm glad you found my rambling useful! I whipped up some facial mask/scrub for you and will pass it to you the next time we see each-other. It's a blend of honey, brown sugar, green tea and olive oil. (All organic of course!) Everything in there is packed with antioxidants and protects your skin from the sun and pew pews free radicals. Also the green tea will help with puffy morning face as it will draw extra moisture out of the skin (But keep it hydrated) and has anti- inflammatory properties. Honey has strong anti bacterial and anti fungal properties as well, so it's AWESOME for getting rid of acne. Olive oil has been used as a moisturizer for ever. It's pure awesome. Also it has mad anti aging effects when used on the skin and draws out impurities without clogging pores. I forgot to mention, honey heals on a cellular level, which means if you've got any pesky acne scars the honey will be able to tone them to match your skin tone (scars are usually a little lighter or darker then our natural skin tone) and then heal them from the inside out. It's pretty bad-ass. Basically this mixture of stuff is one big anti-aging/ healing/ antioxidant/ Free radical blasting cornucopia of awesomeness. I also really suggest that you try out that "yes to carrots" moisturizer. I've only tried the day cream though.

The art exhibit looks awesome! I'll have work on the 26th (which totally sucks) but hopefully I will be able to stop by and see all the awesome textile art! Which I'm sure you're enjoying what with the new lenses :)

Oh also, Olive oil is an awesome make-up remover. Sprinkle a bit on a cotton pad and presto!"
