****SOLD*** MARC by Marc Jacobs navy silk dress, size 6: $80

****SOLD****
Label: MARC by Marc Jacobs
Size: 6
100% silk beauty of a dress with scoop neck and accordion pleating detail at the shoulder (2 layers of pleats!) and the hem. Wide pleats at the high waist wink cheekily at a cummerbund design, while drawing attention to your waist. I adore the tone-on-tone navy silk and the way the hemline dips down in the front.
Price: $80 (retailed for over $280)

Thank you to Tara L & the crafty girls!

Yesterday's jewelry workshop was a success! While turnout was lower than expected, a grand time was had by all as Tara presented a dizzying selection of beads (Austrian crystal! Vintage glass! Semi-precious stones!) and then dove into the earring lesson. There was plenty of tea (we were introduced to the benefits of sweetfern tea), Turkish delight, pastries, and a whole lot of good girl talk & crafty energy.

Photos of the unique creations can be seen below!

Next workshop should take place in June - stay tuned!

.

Soon to glitter in the trove...

  • navy blue silk Marc Jacobs dress
  • vintage chocolate brown leather purse with chain strap
  • antique silver-plated ice bucket
  • small glass flower frog
  • 1970s titanium darts
  • cloth Raggedy Ann doll, 1970s
  • pair of solid wood kitsch 70s chairs
.

Phew!

Twas a busy day in the Trove! Lemonade and newly installed a/c kept things cool, and many items have gone to appreciative new homes! Most of these never made it to the blog, and include:
  • Vivienne Tam navy top with off-white embroidery
  • pale green suede Aquascutum obi belt
  • vintage 70s gold-tone lariat necklace
  • silk Lux top with prancing pony print
  • Gianni Versace denim mini
  • vintage 80s polka dot & stripe prom dress, off the shoulder and crazy with crinoline
  • rust orange vintage 70s leather racer jacket
  • caramel suede fringed ankle booties
  • collapsible wire egg basket, 1920s
  • depression glass footed candy bowl
  • many colourful leather 80s belts
  • camel Viktor + Rolk lightweight knit top
  • vintage castle clock, with twirling carousel!
Thanks to the sweet trovers who brought goodies - I can never say no to dark chocolate!
And I am REALLY looking forward to tomorrow's jewelry workshop. I picked up some rosewater & pistachio Turkish Delight to keep the crafty energy flowing, and will have to dash out to pick up some berries and such tomorrow morning before the ladies arrive. Stay tuned for photos of the gals and their creations!

I think there was a 10 month blip between 1989 & 1990 when this polka dot & floral pattern seemed to be everywhere! This is a sweet halter dress with three straps in the back. The black rosette buttons & coral hibiscus floral pattern make for an unusual colour combo.
Great for an afternoon wedding (in a garden, perhaps?).

Treasure = exploring the homes of creative folk with The Selby

Stumbled over this site the other day and have dedicated a rather unhealthy amount of time diving into the photos and feeling my neurons snap and fire away as they create excited new connections in the part of my grey matter called "Inspired by Interiors!"

From the site:
"Todd Selby is a portrait, interiors, and fashion photographer and illustrator. His project The Selby offers an insider’s view of creative individuals in their personal spaces with an artist's eye for detail. "

Warning: once you go in...you may lose an hour or so!

****SOLD**** Red summer dress, size 8-10: $15

****SOLD****
I can't praise summer dresses enough. I wish I had dozens of 'em. Nay! Twenties or thirties or some other multiplication of 'em! This one is a very pretty example. Rich red (with a pink tinge) and a neat beige wagonwheel allover print. Made by Nanso of Finland. The material is a comfy blend of cotton and modal (beechwood cellulose).
Size: 8-10 (shown belted - belt not included)
Price: $15

****SOLD**** Decorative accordion-style 1960s Polaroid camera: $15

****SOLD****
This camera found me during my first solo trip to NYC - which was the April after 9/11. I have many fond memories of that trip, although walking through the malodorous subways, which were filled with armed guards, is not one of them. There was a crazy flea market on the street, somewhere near St Mark's Place, I think, and this beauty was waiting in a laundry basket, under a pile of magazines. It has graced 3 of my apartments with its presence - and yet every time I try to close it, there's a 5 min period of "how do I DO this again?"
$15 and it's yours!

****SOLD**** Vintage 70s stoneware trio: $10

****SOLD****
The mugs and the little animal (jackal?) figurine came into my possession 3 years apart, and I love how perfectly they match! I hope they find an appreciative new kitchen shelf to grace.
Price: $10

****SOLD**** Vintage 80s lace jelly shoes, size 9: $20 for both pairs!

****SOLD****
I remember begging my mom for two pairs of shoes when I was a kidlet. I wanted a pair of silver sneakers, and a pair of red jellies! I got the silver sneakers and proceeded to wear them til the silver peeled off in stretchy strips. The jellies didn't happen then, and if these were my size, you can betcha I'd keep 'em! Alas, they're a size 9, and the pretty crayon yellow and blue colours will not grace my tender tootsies any time soon. Fun with playful silhouettes: puffy skirts or high-waisted shorts, and perhaps a jaunty bow nestled into your hair!

Price: $20 for both pairs

.

****SOLD**** Stretch denim perfecto dress, XS: $15

****SOLD****
Slink your way into a summer night on the town in this stretchy denim mini-dress.
Perfect for the Piknik, perhaps? Rock the collar and you're all set!
Size: XS
Price: $15

More pics of the new digs!

Various improvements:
  • Couch! For boyfriends to rest on & toodle on the Interwebz if your Trove visit takes a while. I also have a pile of late 80s, early 90s comic books for futher distraction.
  • Reading corner! Piles of home and style magazines - donations to this area welcome :)
  • Dressing room! Well, kinda. It's more like "repurposing of closet!"
  • Belts! I've hung an assortment of belts from the dressing room curtain rod, for when you're trying on something that could benefit from a little cinching!
  • Octagonal table and bistro chairs: for tea (of the iced variety, these days) and treats!
